Passport Services

The Government of Guyana is now issuing biometric passports with enhanced security features. Applicants may choose between a 5-year passport and a 10-year passport.

You may apply for a new passport up to six (6) months before your current passport expires.

All passport applications must begin online through the official Guyana Police Force Passport Portal:

Guyana Passport Appointment System

Applicants must also visit the Embassy of Guyana in Brussels in person to submit their application and complete biometric enrolment, including fingerprints and photograph.

How to Apply

1. Create an account at Guyana Passport Appointment System
2. Complete the passport application form online
3. Upload the required documents
4. Print the completed application form
5. Pay the passport fee by bank transfer at least three (3) days before your appointment
6. Book an appointment with the Embassy
7. Attend your appointment in person

Please note: Walk-ins are not accepted. Only persons with appointments will be processed.

Important Information

• All applicants must attend the Embassy in person.
• There is no expedited passport service at the Embassy. Expedited processing is only available in Guyana.
• Payment must be made by bank transfer before the appointment.
• Cash payments are not accepted at the Embassy.
• Completed applications are sent to Guyana for processing. Processing may take up to 12 weeks.
• New passports must be collected in person at the Embassy of Guyana in Brussels.

Who Can Apply

You may apply for a Guyana passport if you are a Guyanese citizen by birth, descent, registration or naturalisation.

You should apply for a new passport if:

• your passport has expired;
• your passport has less than six (6) months’ validity remaining;
• your passport was lost, stolen or damaged;
• your name has changed; or
• you are applying for a Guyana passport for the first time.

Persons not born in Guyana who have a parent born in Guyana must first apply for Registration as a Citizen of Guyana before applying for a passport.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

All applicants must bring:

• printed passport application form;
• recent passport-size photograph;
• current Guyana passport, if applicable;
• proof of payment;
• original documents required for the type of application; and
• copies of supporting documents, where required.

Applicants must sign the application form on page 2 and the declaration on page 3, where applicable.

Photo and Biometric Requirements

During your appointment, your photograph and fingerprints will be taken.

Please note the following:

• do not wear white clothing, as the background is white;
• do not wear glasses or sunglasses for the photograph;
• head coverings are only allowed for religious purposes and must show the full face, including the ears;
• earrings or studs are not accepted in photographs for male applicants;
• passport photos must have a plain white background with no shadows; and
• photo size must be between 32 x 26 mm and 45 x 35 mm.

Renewal of Machine-Readable Passports

Dark Blue Passport

Applicants renewing a machine-readable passport must submit:

• completed application form;
• original Guyana passport;
• one colour copy of the bio-data page of the passport;
• one recent colour photograph taken within the last three (3) months;
• proof of payment; and
• appointment confirmation.

First-Time Applicants or Holders of Green or Black Passports

First-time applicants and persons with non-machine-readable passports must submit the documents listed above, plus:

• original Guyana birth certificate or registration certificate;
• copy of overseas ID, such as passport, driver’s licence or residence permit;
• completed recommender section on page 3 of the application form; and
• endorsed photograph from the recommender.

The recommender must certify the photograph with the words:

“I certify that this is a true likeness of Mr./Mrs./Miss __________________.”

The recommender must sign the back of the photograph and must have known the applicant for at least two (2) years. The recommender must not be an immediate family member.

If the applicant cannot provide another form of ID, a statutory declaration from a parent, sibling or spouse confirming the applicant’s identity may be required, together with a copy of the declarant’s passport bio-data page.

Lost, Stolen or Damaged Passports

Applicants with lost, stolen or damaged passports must submit:

• documents required for a passport renewal;
• original birth certificate or registration certificate;
• copy of overseas ID, such as passport, driver’s licence or residence permit;
• police report or notarised affidavit explaining how the passport was lost, stolen or damaged;
• completed recommender section on page 3 of the application form; and
• endorsed photograph from the recommender.

Affidavits for lost passports may be done at the Embassy for an additional fee of €20.

Change of Name

Applicants applying for a passport in a new name must submit:

• documents required for a passport renewal;
• original marriage certificate, divorce decree, or spouse’s birth certificate, where applicable;
• original registered deed poll or legal name change document;
• copy of valid photo ID showing the new name;
• completed recommender section on page 3 of the application form; and
• endorsed photograph from the recommender.

The application form must be completed using the applicant’s new legal name.

Applications for Children

Children Under 10 Years Old

• Children under 10 are not required to provide fingerprints or sign the application form.
• A parent or legal guardian must provide biometrics for the child’s passport.
• Children under 18 must be accompanied by one or both parents.
• Both parents must sign the consent section on page 3 and provide photo identification.
• Children under 10 may only apply for a 5-year passport.
• A parent must collect the passport on behalf of the child.

Children 10 to 17 Years Old

• Children must be accompanied by one or both parents.
• Both parents must sign the consent section on page 3 and provide photo identification.
• Children between 10 and 17 must sign the application form on page 2.
• Children between 10 and 17 may apply for either a 5-year or 10-year passport.
• A parent must collect the passport on behalf of the child.
