GUIDELINES: LEGALIZATION OF DOCUMENTS

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Guyana legalizes documents via Apostille.

The process for legalization of a document involves verifying the origin of the relevant document. Legalization is official confirmation that the signature of the civil servant that has signed a document, or the seal or stamp on the document, is legitimate.

The following documents can be legalised:

  • Certificates (Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Decree, Registration, Police Certificate of Character, Non-Impediment to Marriage, University Diplomas/Degrees, etc.)

  • Commercial Documents (Export Certificates, Manufacturing Certificates, Certificates of Compliance)

Certified English translations of all documents in foreign languages are required.

Documents without the Signatures and Seals of the Notary Public or the relevant authorized Agency/Institution will not be processed.

Please contact the Embassy if you require the legalization of a document which is not listed above.

DOCUMENTATION:

  • Completed Application Form (for individuals or organizations)

  • Original document to be legalized and a coloured copy

  • Valid Photo Identification (Coloured Copy of Identification Card or Passport)

  • Original Deed Poll/Certificate of Marriage or any other relevant document – if there was a change of name other than what is stated on the document to be legalized (e.g. Certificate of Birth, Passport, Certificate of Character, etc.)

FEES:

  • Legalization (per document): €20

  • Return Postage of Documents via Registered Mail: €15
